Salons, Pool & Lounges

The house seen across the pool, with pines on both sides and loungers along the near edge.

The pool

Full sun on the water from mid-morning, shade on the terrace until the pines move.

The main suite

Doors straight onto the lawn with the pool beyond, a desk by the window, and a marble bathroom of its own.

Bathroom
Ensuite, in marble. Freestanding tub and a walk-in shower.
Access
French doors to the garden, pool in view.
A bedroom with double doors open onto the garden, a striped rug and a made bed.

The garden is the larger half

Pool on the long axis of the lawn. Pergola. A table that stays laid.

The pool takes the light from mid-morning until evening. Under the pergola, timber deep enough to live beneath, the long table is set for lunch and never really cleared. The pines do the rest, holding the heat off the terrace all afternoon and letting it go the moment the sun drops behind the Maures.

A long outdoor table laid for dinner under the pergola, lit from above, the garden dark behind.

Cool, white, wide open

Living rooms, open kitchen, bedrooms that give onto the grass.

Full-height doors fold back until the walls are gone. White plaster, pale timber underfoot, shutters drawn against the two o'clock sun. The rooms hold the cool of the morning right through the afternoon, and every one of them opens onto the garden.

A living room under a pitched white ceiling, pale sofas, built-in shelving and glazed doors to the garden.
An open kitchen with a stone island, pendant lights above it and a dining table beyond.
A second sitting room with a vaulted ceiling, deep sofas and a wide opening onto the terrace.
A bedroom with double doors open onto the garden, a striped rug and a made bed.
A bathroom in pale marble with a freestanding tub under a window looking onto greenery.
A bedroom with shuttered windows, a pine visible outside and a door open to the garden.

Sauna

Timber-lined, with a stove.

Come in off the beach with the salt still on you and sit until the day lets go. Then straight back out into an evening that has cooled about ten degrees while you were in there. It is the shortest distance anywhere between the sea and feeling human again.

A timber-panelled sauna with a stove, benches and indirect lighting along the ceiling.
A treatment room with a massage table, wall lights and a framed photograph; a therapist works on a guest lying under a towel.

Massage

A room given over to it.

Not a corner of a bedroom with the furniture pushed back: a proper treatment room, shutters half closed, table in place. No spa to book across town, no car, no marble lobby.

A gym room panelled in pale timber, with an exercise bike, weights along the wall and a full-height mirror.

Gym

An equipped room.

Yours for the whole week, whenever it suits: early, late, or not at all. Which is rather the luxury of having one in the villa.

A television room: a wide wall-mounted screen above low white cabinets, two curved coffee tables, deep sofas and armchairs, with cove lighting along the ceiling.

Cinema

A room of its own, and the sofas to match.

Not a television pushed into a corner of the sitting room: a separate room, lit low along the ceiling, with sofas deep enough to lose an afternoon in. It is where the house goes when the sun is too strong, and again once dinner is over.

A golf simulator room: a wide projection screen showing a fairway, a putting surface underfoot and a sofa along the back wall.

Golf simulator

A TrackMan, and a green indoors.

Play eighteen holes at midnight without leaving the house, or just hit balls until someone calls you for dinner. It is the room that gets used far more than anyone expects when they read the list.

The whole of it, for a week
